Life through the eyes of a young, quirky, intelligent, bougie broad.
Bougie. Snobby. Bratty. Spoiled. Uppity. Pretentious. Stuck up. Snotty. Self-centered. Vain. Conceited. Sadiddy. Bitchy. Selfish. Yes I have heard them all. Do these words truly describe me? Not so much. But either way, these words and many others, have shaped my thinking, how I see the world, and how I live my life. My blog entries are not meant to be deep, educational, or life changing. Rather just thought provoking. I want to foster conversation (good or bad). Thank you for gracing me with your presence (or should you be thanking me...hmmmm... just kidding!)
Barack vs. The Cancer Sticks - Say it ain't so!
Why are my feelings kind of hurt since finding out that Barack is/was a smoker?
I mean lots of people smoke cigs... hell I've taken a puff or two. But to be deemed a smoker is yuck; that's just a nasty habit! I just can’t over the fact that Obama likes to
puffity puff on the cancer sticks. Not even just socially, but like he’s trying to kick the habit – that’s kind of deep.
While it’s true that my admiration for Obama has almost surpassed my affection for Bill, this might set him back a little. I need for him to quit smoking like now. I don’t want
to walk past him on the streets of DC and be awe struck only to be overcome by the smell of stale smoke. We don’t want to hear him give great speeches and start to hack up a lung. I am really
bothered by this. I guess I just never pictured such an educated and talented man would have a weakness. I guess that’s the problem with holding certain people to unattainable standards. He is human
just like everyone else.
Let me tell you how much I hate April Fool’s Day. I have my gullible moments and I usually have them when the probability for embarrassment is at its highest
point. Is it bad that I have been very quiet today? I am only trying to hold "hi" and "bye" type conversations. I am scared someone is going to get me with a damn April Fool’s joke! For instance,
have you checked your Gmail account today? Go ahead and take a look. Do you see anything kind of wacky? Okay fine–look in the upper right corner and see what Google
(http://mail.google.com/mail/help/customtime/index.html) is doing to people today.
Do not leave me any comments talk about how obvious this was because I will be pissed! Like a dumb ass I have been IM’ing everyone to tell them about this and how sketchy it
seems. Then it dawns on me. "You got got again Elisa!" Damn you Google! Sad thing is, it took me a good couple of hours to realize this is a joke. *Sigh*
Hey everyone. Things have been pretty hectic so I apologize for being MIA. The news has gotten beyond ridiculous so I haven't had it in me to report on all of the crazy crap I have
continued to witness. Please bear with me... in the mean time check out my natural hair journey at http://hopefullyhappyandnappy.blogspot.com/. Stay bougie and I'll be back eventually :o).
So I probably only watched a total of 10 minutes of this horrible awards show. Some of you know that I don't like awards shows, so having to watch this junk
was painful. First of all, Britney Spears needs to give it up. She looked like she was doped up on something, her weave was AWFUL and she should have lost a few more
pounds before putting that oufit (or lack there of) on. What happened to Criss Angel hooking her up with some magic tricks? He should have made her tail disappear. Horrible. I
really feel sorry for her; she needs to get help for the sake of her children. Not only did she have a beyond horrible performance, Sarah Silverman lit her up—even talked about her kids.
SMH. If you missed her walking through her performance and lip syncing, check it out:
From what I saw of the awards, correct me if I am wrong, the picture quality was bad, the sound was jacked, the set was bootleg, people couldn’t read the
teleprompters, etc. It was terrible. So glad ...
Please listen to this in its
entirety. Julia Hare isn't scared to
speak the truth! If she isn't, why are we? This clip is
from Tavis Smiley's "State of Black America" which aired a while
back. Thanks for passing this on Terra!
Congrats to Brian A., Qwanell, Robert
(aka Drama King), Willie and Mike (aka Big Sexy)!
Now, I was surprised when Diddy didn’t
put Donny in his 5 man group, instead signing him to Bad Boy as a
solo artist. I hope Diddy doesn’t mess over these boys.
All of the finalists seem like genuinely nice guys. I truly
hope that Diddy doesn’t screw them over… whateva happened to Da
Band? Danity Kane is clearly a hot mess.
You knew it was only a matter of time
before I gave my two cents regarding this damn Vick
case. First let me start off by saying that I am in
NO WAY supporting what Michael Vick did to
those poor dogs (but let's be real, he isn't the first person
in Virginia to dog fight). I do think he gets the prize
for the being the dumbest athlete this year; talk about being
self destructive and stupid. Organized dog fighting has
a maximum penalty of up to 5 years in prison and a $250,000
fine. While Vick will probably on spend 12 to 18 months
in jail, LiLo will probably only serve 4 days in jail for her
TWO DUIs and cocaine
possession. Does anyone see a problem with
this?
I really get annoyed with white Hollywood. They always seem
to get off with a slap on the wrist. Look at Paris Hilton,
now LiLo. I'll be interested to see what happens with Nicole
Richie. I mean seriously drunk driving is extremely dangerous
and to get caught twice and only receive 4 days in jail is
ridiculous. I'm going to leave it at that...
Unless you live under a rock….
I take that back…if you are into video games, you probably
know that Madden 2008 came out this morning at
midnight. So you ask, “Who really goes to Game Stop at
midnight to get a video game?” Well, being the enabler
that I am *wink*, I went to Game Stop with
***** (he has asked that his identity remain private in fear
of embarrassment lol—just kidding).
So, I was kinda salty (and full of
wine) on the way to Game Stop because after a long, ghetto
experience at UPS, I finally got Boogie for my WII, which
SUCKS. So the thought of another video game wasn’t all the
exciting to me… at first. Anyways, we make a bet on our way
to pick up Madden about how many people we think will be waiting in
line to get this game. I estimated 10. I mean really,
who stands in line at midnight during the week, to get a video
game? ***** estimated 20 or 25 which to me just seemed way
off. Well we were both wrong, but I was really off because
there had to be at least ...
I’m baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! Things got pretty hectic (i.e. moving and work) but things are back to normal. I know yall missed me!
So could your “Mr. Right” be white?
Have I ever dated outside my race? Yes, one guy and it wasn’t serious. Am I against interracial dating? Nope, not at all; do what you do. There are more than a few interracial couples in my family. One produced my niece who is my ray of sunshine! We all know it’s not easy meeting someone you are compatible with so if you meet someone and they happen not to look like you, who cares, right? But then again, I guess it is what you are attracted to. Personally I love black men and I simply identify with the black male. I love seeing successful black relationships evolving into beautiful black families. Our community is in need of positive families who produce productive and successful citizens. I can’t lie, I am sometimes perplexed when I see a black man with a non-black woman. I guess I am just always curious as to why they are together.
Honestly when I think of interracial couples, I ...
My friend sent me an article/blog posting about BET’s new show, “Hot Ghetto Mess” and the backlash it is receiving. The debate is whether or not this show promotes negative racial stereotypes. According to the article, two advertisers have already pulled out from the July 25th premiere due to boycotting threats. Good job Home Depot and State Farm Insurance! What were they thinking in the first place? Anyways…
Well let’s take one step back. We are talking about a show appearing on BET. That’s issue number one. BET has been making a negative nose dive for years, have we forgotten “Uncut”, “College Hill”, “Cita’s World”, etc.? The programming on BET is horrible and in no ways promotes or shows black culture in a positive light, in my opinion. So, sadly, I am not shocked that people are outraged by one of their new programming selections.
Next, I took a look at the site that this show is based upon (www.hotghettomess.com). Was I appalled by some of the images, yup, but sadly not surprised. I have to admit that I chuckled at the sight of some. Not really laughing at these folks, rather laughing at trying ...
Rumor has it that he hasn’t been supportive or helpful in her effort to become an actress/model/entrepreneur. I don’t know why she expected him to help her out. He’s always too busy trying to make the money for himself. Maybe he should stop trying to use television to build a singing group filled with a bunch for randoms (i.e. Making the Band 4 and Danity Kane, oh and Da Band) and focus on his family. Oh well. Do what you do.
What I find funny is that Diddy’s people are denying the split. I wonder how long it will take for her to cave again and go back the Mr. Combs. Money, oops love, causes people to do crazy things…
Let me start off by saying I am not an awards show type of gal. So it took a lot for me to just try to watch the BET Awards. It also pains me to watch because I think that the BET network is a mockery of African-American culture. So with that said, we will move right along…
I didn’t watch the whole show because Rob & Big came on MTV and they crack me up more than the foolishness taking place during the BET Awards! But I did manage to catch a few snippets that made me shake my head, not in disgust, rather I thought, “why am I not surprised?” So hear we go.
Mo’Nique: I love to see thick women represent but damn. None of Mo’Nique’s outfits were flattering. Thank goodness she is cute in the face other than that I really think she didn’t look as good as she could. Her stylist should be fired.
I heard that Public Enemy’s tribute to James Brown was great and Ciara, like always talked during her performance. I heard conflicting comments about the Jennifer Hudson and Jennifer Holiday performance. So in ...
Why won’t Janet Jackson give it up? Perez Hilton is reporting that the 40 something year old is planning yet another comeback. Please don’t and spare us all. Didn’t she learn from her last album? It was a major disappointment. And what really pissed me off is that she had the nerve to put a ton of bad songs on that album. What a waste of money and time! And another thing, all the plastic surgery has made her look like gizmo or some kind of animal you would expect to find in Australia. Before you tell me I am being mean, you know I am right! She just looks, well...plastic; definitely not as cute as she was back in the 90s. She really needs to hang it up.
Consider this as my plea to Ms. Jackson (if your nasty) to stop trying to make hit records ...
Off the field, Simpson made a conscious decision to project a positive image, to distance himself from the teenage O.J. who was a troublemaker and spent time in a correctional center. He had an innate way of communicating warmth and charm that lifted him to an almost mythical level and made him the first African-American athlete to be merchandised on a grand scale. His Hertz commercials pictured a dapper O.J. running to catch a Hertz rent-a-car, smiling as he hurdled the airport guardrail and flashed past the cheering old lady. He was an African-American man interacting with white men and women as if this were a natural part of our society, as if other African-American athletes were not protesting the segregation that still existed. Overtly, Simpson sidestepped the entire issue, appearing apolitical, which was how the business community and the audiences accepted him, all of which catapulted him to a level of financial success unknown to most athletes–black or white–of his time. –Larry Schwartz, ESPN.com
I’ll never forget when O.J. Simpson was acquitted in 1995. The “trial of the century”, as some would say, sent racial tension to a high (again). It’s amazing how one ...
Engadget is breaking the news along with some very interesting pictures. It is still too early to tell if the pictures are representative of a future Sidekick. If these pictures do end up coming to fruition at some point, I am excited about the sliding screen as opposed to the swivel screen that the models have now. The whole design is very sleek and modern… I love it!
I can not keep up with Danger technology; every year they have something new coming out whether it is a limited edition model with funky colors and themes or a completely new model. If anyone has anymore information, please hit me up. I am dying for some more Sidekick dirt!
BREAKING NEWS: Lavar Arrington was in a motorcycle accident!
Please pray for LaVar Arrington. Apparently he was just in a severe motorcycle accident in Maryland.
Sadly he left the Redskins and I am STILL his super fan .

The Bougie Broad's Rant of the Day (June 18, 2007)
There is way too much going on today!
Here’s my attempt at consolidating all of the “news” that caught my eye today!
1. Reality TV Watch: This weekend “Confessions of a Matchmaker” on A&E debuted (Saturday at 10 p.m.) and was sooooooo funny—definitely one to check out! Tonight is the premiere of NBC’s “Age of Love”—I have my money on the “Cougars”. There is no way that some 20 year olds can compete against some experienced WOMEN. Supposedly there are rumors that Vanessa Minnillo might be getting her reality show. Ummm… why? Why don’t they just give Nick Lachey another show? I’m sure that would be way more entertaining than his attention thirsty gf. Also, the Washington Post is reporting that Suge Knight is getting his own reality show as well? This man scares the poo out out of me!
How in the world did the Hoff get full custody of his kids? His ex-wife must seriously be a loony tune. Did the courts not see the hamburger/drunk tape? *sigh* I will pray for the children.
